The historic town of Battle is about 8 miles from the park.
Battle is easy to get to by road or rail with regular bus and train services from Hastings. By car, as you leave the park turn left. Cross the mini roundabout and go straight over the next roundabout. You will then pass some shops on the right hand side. At the top of the hill turn left and the traffic lights. At the roundabout take the second exit (A2100 Battle). Stay on this road all the way into Battle. For the Abbey there is a car park next door
Battle Abbey is at the end of the High Street. It is owned and maintained by English Heritage.
On 14th October 1066 the Norman invading army defeated the British lead by King Harold. You can explore the battle fields with the aid of an audio tour, stand at the site where Harold died and explore the atmospheric abbey that William built to commemorate the thousands who died.
